A Novel Modular Multilevel Converter Based on Interleaved Half-Bridge Submodules

A new Modular Multilevel Converter with Interleaved half-bridge Sub-Modules (ISM-MMC) is proposed in this article. The ISM-MMC exhibits higher modularity and scalability terms of current ratings respect to a conventional MMC while preserving the typical voltage-level adaptiveness. brings known advantages classical low-voltage, high-current applications making it novel candidate for sector ultrafast chargers all types electric vehicles (EVs). This advanced topology makes possible easily reach charging power EV system up 4.5 MW beyond low-voltage supply. To operate converter, hybrid modulation scheme that helps exploit interleaving implemented explained It has been verified control methods are still applicable ISM-MMC. comparative study between configurations output characteristics efficiency also given. Furthermore, demonstrated number ac voltage levels synthetically multiplied by interleaved legs submodules. Simulations, hardware loop, experimental tests carried out demonstrate feasibility scheme.
